If a rainforest falls and no-one listens

The latest news that the Amazon rainforest has turned into a net carbon producer should be a call for action for everyone interested in the future of this planet.

A report published in Nature magazine by Brazilian scientists, picked up by the Guardian newspaper and others, shows that deforestation and other human activity means that the Amazon now generates a billion tonnes of carbon a year more than it absorbs.

There is work for everyone to do to reverse the terrible downward cycle that we are on as a result of misuse of planet earth. Politicians, environmentalists, public figures and influencers from every walk of life need to join forces and put the compelling case for change.

I have to believe that it is not too late and as a businessman I want to speak directly to my peers in the global industries that are responsible for a large part of the problem and who are still not listening or acting.

If a tree falls in a forest and no-one hears its, that is a philosophical puzzle. If a rainforest starts to fall and no-one listens, that is an existential threat for the human race.

There are a lot of things that can be done with existing technology that could help the planet without destroying jobs, economic growth or standards of living.

Think about adopting an Investment Policy to Prevent Global Warming. Share positive case studies about environmentally friendly projects on the Betterworld.Solutions website and encourage suppliers and business partners to do the same.
