Betterworld member DMG Mori’s Sailing Team has announced the building of a new International Monohull Open Class Association (IMOCA) yacht to participate in the Vendee Globe in four years’ time.

The state-of-the-art 18m boat will integrate the latest developments of aerodynamics and hydrodynamics as well as lightweight, high-strength materials and is designed to be both performant and reliable. It is expected to be launched in 2026.

The Vendée Globe boats are designed to be laboratories for innovation, influencing the entire nautical industry. The 2028 regulations will include a Carbon Cap, a limit on CO2 emissions in the construction of new IMOCA.

In the run-up to November’s start of the 2024 edition of the solo, non-stop, non-assisted round the world race, the Vendée Globe is affirming its environmental commitments.

In addition to the causes supported by the skippers, there are ten 10 environmental commitments including building a positive legacy through the creation of the "Vendée Globe Foundation"an Endowment Fund to finance, in particular, the coordination of participative science by the skippers around the world in partnership with UNESCO.
