Betterworld member Gripple, a leading manufacturer of wire joiners and tensioners,is supporting the Betterworld Forestry project with a donation of its fencing tensioners.
The project is part of a plan by AES for an extensive tree-planting programme on sites in Scotland and Northern Ireland. This in turn is part of a wider commitment to spend £29 million on environmental projects by 2029. The company has already bought two sites in County Fermanagh, one of 90 acres, the other of 45 acres, which will be home to more than 100,000 trees including English Oak, Birch, Scots Pine, Hazel and Sitka Spruce. All the trees will be planted by the end of September 2024.
The project has been registered with the UK Woodland Carbon Code and there maybe a government-funded payment for carbon capture in the next eight to ten years.
Betterworld founder Chris Rea said that it was highly encouraging to see two Betterworld members cooperating on such an important environmental investment.
“While planting trees on its own will not be enough to combat the climate crisis,” he said, “they are beautiful in their own right and it’s a step in the right direction.”
Gripple Group Managing Director Ed Stubbs said that the company was pleased to support the initiative.
“At Gripple,” he said, “we are equally passionate and committed to reaching Climate Positive, and it is great to be working together with Betterworld members to get there.”
